
History-making Catholic Education Conference
Cairns has made history as the first Diocese to host the Australian Catholic Education Conference outside of a capital city.
The 30 Catholic schools and colleges of the Cairns Diocese educate over 12,000 students – from Tully in the south, west to the Atherton Tablelands, and north to the Torres Strait.
A Catholic education provides an educational foundation for life to the full; a quality education that is not merely academic, but also focuses on full development of the child – intellectually, spiritually, physically, morally and emotionally. We challenge our students to find meaning and value in their lives, develop communal obligations and aspirations, espouse values which unite society infused by a commitment to social justice, and become compassionate and contributing members of our world.

More than 1,400 Catholic educators and leaders will gather in Cairns this week for the 2025 Australian Catholic Education Conference.
Exemplary individuals and educators were honoured this Catholic Education Week at the state-wide Spirit of Catholic Education Awards and the locally hosted Docemus Awards.
Catholic Education Diocese of Cairns gained a new leader in 2025 with Durm O’Riordan taking the reins from Bill Dixon, who retired in 2024. In
